Muslim American women discuss common misconceptions about the hijab. This is from a series of short films called The Secret Life of Muslims, created by filmmaker Joshua Seftel.

muslims in america
thanks god you made me real muslim
I feel like you guys are changing what hijab really means. A turban isn't a hijab. There isn't choices of culture and tradition, it's a religious thing. A hijab isn't just a "cloth that covers your hair" it's should cover your entire body, and hijab isn't just physical but also a womens shyness and her manners. May Allah bless them tho for their efforts but don't change the law of Allah in some parts just to please the non Muslims.
Is that Beyonce?😂😂😂
Ok I get it
The nice thing about hijab is when u have to match them with ur clothes. I just enjoy matching colours and styles. I feel like a fashion designer. I really love the colours hijabs come in. Really creative. Special thanks to companies that made these beautiful hijabs(or head scarfs).
I want to marry a muslim woman btw I'm not muslim she better wear the hijab. when I was a young boy I fell in love with my neighbors wife and she always had it on. till this day she is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
Maybe in saudi Arabia its not a choice but most countries have the choice. People need to awaken instead of throwing steortypical views about hijab women. I wear the hijab and no man controls me and the reason as to why women wear the hijab is to protect their beauty as surely wouldn't u want a person like you for ur personality rather than your body or appearance?? That's the sheer beauty of it and if u cannot understand that then I am open to questions!!! 😂✌️💞
It's sad because lots of women are no value as man in many middle country. Linda should go and protest.
"A hijab is a thing that a male Muslim should have absolutely no opinion about." Say it again for the people in the back! Hijab is between Allah and the woman wearing it, NO ONE ELSE, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Do we wear hijab while showering ?? Yes we use hijab and sholders
Listen what she said " I've never worn hijab '' and she's a Muslim women hehehe i think it's joke Sister every Muslim women must wear a hijab because our religion said that 🌼
I got asked if I was bald at school a couple of times
Promoting Linda the terrorist. Well done USA Today!
I wear hijab because I feel protected and safe.As I live in a place where women are not safe from the evil eyes, wearing hijab helps a lot. Also hijab reminds me that I am a muslim and I should act like one in every situation.
“ Muslim men don’t get an opinion?” Wtf does that mean as a Muslim woman that’s offensive so my father, husband, family’s opinion doesn’t matter ? See that’s how Islam is different we are united and we share our opinions and advice and teachings it’s up to the woman if she takes it it’s her choice but to say it doesn’t matter or they don’t get a say is fucked up we don’t operate like that those are our brothers Islam hijab isn’t just for women men need their form of hijab too.
Guys, hijab doesn’t only mean to wrap up a fabric on your head.It means to cover the whole body except the hands, feet and face. And the hijab shouldn’t be skinny so that everybody can see one’s body shape.
I started putting hijab at 8 the grade , my friends didn't like it , they kept trying to take it off. I lost many friends because of that but I'm happy of my decision to keep putting hijab
Some people think that hijab holds muslim women to express themself, and as a symbol of intimidation in islam religion, but the truth is, Allah told muslim women to wear hijab bc He wants to protect them, and not to expose themself too much except to their husband and family. Thats the point, so dont get it wrong. The more you know the better (:
Bluetooth hijab! Hahaha good one quite useful
Maryam Al Ghazali
People have crazy they never seem to baffle me, I heard it all 😂
I ❤ Hijab
"Symbol" of Slavery as a good thing.
Bluetooth is the real reason we all do it come on guys let’s be honest with ourselves. Jk lol but it sure is the most convenient thing in the universe.
For y'all who keep on commenting shit like "the hijab is a symbol of oppression" Just shut up already Do you wanna know what's oppressive? You telling a hijabi woman what and what her piece of clothing feels like to wear , with ZERO experience of wearing one...wtf Mind your own business
People are brainwashed into religeon..its been around and instilled in humans for centuries..no human in the last 14 centuries or more was born and not known of religion..its in every ones outer DNA.. man made religeon has not helped humanity..they have just created indifferences between people and even more within their own religeons..sects upon sects..belief in the Creator is right..but without traditions and rituals and worship..but belief in dieties..is belittling the Creator..it makes a mockery out of logic. It stops progress..without the industrial revolution and technology..the religionists would have you living in tents..next to your donkey..and marrying 6 year olds..plus killing new born girls..

OMG I can relate you people ask me all the time do I take a shower with it, that’s my husband ever see my hair or does my husband make me do this you know you live in America give me a chance to say something, so you realize I'm an American

Inspiring Alhamdulillah 💝💞💙❣

Elif Naz Yıldız
Guys, don't be racist please, they are human like me, you, us, everyone. Let them be, they look perfect. Proud of them!
I love this ❤️
Educate yourselves! Hijab is the most oppressive symbol for women! Don't kid yourselves! http://youtube.com/watch?v=-qFqwmpCqIg&t=198s http://youtube.com/watch?v=pgN0P-fqBkk
Okay hijab is not only to cover but also to better yourself as a person, being kind, honest and respectful etc. A hijab is not only for women but also for men, it is something that is addressed in the Quran, they both should try practice it. And that also means to not judge or grow opinions of how others should dress. Everyone has different spiritual journeys and should be respected.
😍love my islam
1:01 damb she is a beauty....
Where are the turkish womans😍
Show your beautiful hair... why man doesn't wear it?
Who else got the Bluetooth hijab?
This comment is for all the uneducated smartass Islamophobics in this comment section. First of all, other than Iran, no Muslim countries have laws regarding wearing a hijab. Especially Saudi Arabia. Go read the law before trying to act like a smartass and comment lies. On the other hand, Turkey has actually banned wearing the hijab. SUCH A SHAME. “In other places it is oppression” What a joke. No place on this planet is it a oppression to wear the hijab so stfu and educate yourselves. In sharia controlled countries, women do infact have choice to wear it . . . As for Iran, many many women in Iran do not wear the hijab and no one says anything to them. And as for the law, it is for public places only but many women do not obey the law and no one gives a shit. I know this because my best friend who is a girl is from Iran and this summer she went to Iran and she posted pictures on her Instagram of herself and she never wore a hijab or anything in her neck or head and wore western clothes in the public and no one said anything to her. I even asked her about it and she said that a lot of people don’t follow the law their and no one says anything to them. My sisters high school best friend is also Iranian and she infact said the same and she also wears no headscarf and wears western clothes. People should be ashamed for spreading false information
0:49 Why did pink hijabi on the left act like a rapper w/ hand movements next to *KHLOE KARDASHIAN🤣*
hopefully some of the people in the comment section educated themselves over the course of the past year.

By the way, EVERYBODY who wrote comments here doesn't know what really happens. Yes, I'm a Muslim and yes, I'm wearing hijab. But, there are no such thing as an oppression here, except for some groups here (in Indonesia) who forced us to believe in terrorism and their 'jihad'. Trust me. Those people are scary, and people who wrote about the hatred towards Muslims (in general) and hijabi (Muslim women who wears headscarves) in any social media, is never use their heart and soul to wrote it down what they really feel. Trust me, until now, I bet they won't go to the Mosque around them, because they think we make some bombs there. Seriously. Go to the mosque, NOW! Not because I want to force you to be Muslim, but if you think you REALLY know about Islam, just go there and see what happens. Also, you can ask about our Holy Book because you NEVER know what was inside. I'm just saying, but if you don't want to take my advice...well that's fine. Just stop judging our religion is 'stupid', 'evil', etc. If you want to judge, judge our behavior not our religion. And we're tolerant and moderate, not like you who likes to wrote comments with sarcasm and insults, because you're the one who needs your priest/rabbi now. And if you're an atheist...well at least respect us as human beings.
Feel sorry to see that..
So let me state something real quick in the middle east it doesn't matter if it's a law to wear it or not a woman has as much freedom as her family would let her have and a lot of these families are abusive and would force women to do things against their will or stop them from doing somethings they wanna do Laws don't do much for women either and if the law suit fails which it will the girl is pretty much dead.
new one bloototh hijab they are not muslims
Hijad -wearing Women Rock my World
This verse is from the Quran. And there are a lot of other verses like this. Make your researches. STOP TRYING 5O LET ISLAM LOOK COOL WHEN IT IS NOT: And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
Muslim's are the new Nazi's! Don't be fooled by Muslims saying Islam is a Religion of Peace! It is not! It is a Political System wrapped up in a Religion for total social control! Islam states in the Quran, Hadith, Sunna; all say that we must convert or die! And that the main goal of Islam is total World Domination through force of arms if necessary! How is that a Religion of peace? How does that not make Muslims enemies of Western Culture! The Pillars of Islam are not compatible with Constitutional Law and they will never Integrate into American Society! They will always be 5th Columnist interlopers with an Agenda to bring down the USA!
Naughty internet person
Linda Sarsour makes me want to die! Even in the west, in un-westernised Muslim populations it often isn't actually a choice, and even in fairly secular Muslim lands, it's not a choice. It's a choice...for you.
Linda sarsour is white? I thought she's Arab (Palestinian).
glad that is cleared up, your men own you and that's what they say, be a good pet
In sharia controlled countries women DO NOT have a choice about wearing hijab. This is what they want to force women here to wear
wow these comments are disgusting. Such misogynistic hateful people.
they look scary
Muslim fundamentalism can harms the world
Garbage video..trashy women..Linda Sarsour and the cow beside her are fugly.
Go to saudi arabia and see what happens when you don't wear hijab. In the US it might be a decision, but in other places its total oppression. Hide your bodies women. And Linda Sarsour is such a fraud feminist.
I wear a hijab and I'm a man
This is haram!
